We are currently finalising our inaugural Board Members and Advisory Panel ready for our official launch on 9 July 2026 in Brisbane. Following this launch, the Board will meet and elect a Chair. For practical purposes of organisation, a Treasuer and Secretary have been appointed and will reaffirmed, or replaced at the first Board meeting. Catherine Smith, Treasurer
Catherine “Cass” Smith is a highly accomplished financial professional with more than 30 years of experience across taxation, business advisory, finance, property, and wealth strategy. She is a qualified accountant, registered tax agent, mortgage broker, and accredited adviser in Succession, Asset Protection and Estate Planning (SAPEP). Cass has worked extensively in both the public and private sectors, including more than 11 years with the Australian Taxation Office where she served as a Senior Fraud Investigator and Director.
Cass is the founder of Freedom Financial Solutions, established in 2021 to support individuals navigating increasing financial and regulatory complexity. Earlier in her career she founded what became Australia’s most awarded accounting firm, recognised nationally for excellence in financial services and client outcomes. Her work focuses on helping everyday Australians protect their assets, strengthen their financial position, and build long-term security.
A recognised leader in her field, Cass was named 2019 Telstra Business Woman of the Year (ACT) and has received more than 50 industry awards across ACT, NSW, and nationally. She holds a Master’s Degree in Taxation Law, a Bachelor of Accounting, and multiple diplomas in financial planning, finance, mortgage broking, and real estate.
As Treasurer of Future Solutions Foundation, Cass brings extensive financial expertise and governance experience, helping ensure the Foundation’s resources are managed responsibly while supporting its mission to assist individuals and families affected by medical negligence.

Mary-Jane Liddicoat, Secretary
Mary-Jane Liddicoat is an experienced leader with a background spanning diplomacy, government, business, and community advocacy. As a former Australian diplomat and Director of the Australia-Japan Foundation in Canberra, she represented Australia in Japan, Korea, and the Middle East, gaining extensive experience in international relations and cross-cultural engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) from the University of Sydney.
At Freedom Financial Solutions FFS, Mary-Jane helps individuals and families strengthen financial independence through compliant self-manage super fund (SMSF) establishment. She has played a leading role in national civic movements, including Freedom Day and Millions March, and has stood as a federal candidate focused on human rights and informed choice. With this background in diplomacy, government, education, business, and grassroots activism, Mary-Jane brings strategic insight shaped by real-world experience.
As Secretary of the Future Solutions Foundation, Mary-Jane contributes her expertise in governance, financial strategy, and community engagement to support the Foundation’s mission of assisting individuals and families affected by medical negligence.

Suzie Heath, Board Member
Suzie Heath is the founder and director of the Body Transformation Institute (BTI), a wellness and aesthetics clinic based on the Sunshine Coast. With more than 30 years of experience in the health, beauty, and wellness industry, she has developed BTI into a centre focused on body transformation, cellular health, and holistic rejuvenation.
Through her work, Suzie integrates advanced aesthetic and wellness technologies with holistic health approaches. Under her leadership, BTI has become known for its multi-modal approach to treatment, combining emerging technologies with wellness therapies designed to support vitality, recovery, and long-term wellbeing.
Suzie is also guiding the expansion of BTI into a national franchise model, with a focus on practitioner education and increasing access to innovative wellness services.
As a Board Member of the Future Solutions Foundation, Suzie brings valuable expertise in holistic health, wellbeing innovation, and community-focused wellness initiatives, supporting the Foundation’s mission to assist individuals and families affected by medical negligence.

Tom Landon-Smith, Board Member
Tom Landon-Smith is an Australian endurance athlete, adventure racer, and event director with a distinguished background in international sport, environmental health, and community leadership. He previously represented Australia as a cross-country skier and was selected for the 1994 Australian Olympic squad before going on to achieve national success in adventure racing and rogaining.
Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours) and is the co-founder of AROC Sport, the organisation behind major endurance events including Ultra-Trail Australia (formerly The North Face 100), now one of the world’s largest trail-running festivals. Through this work he has built extensive experience in event leadership, community engagement, and outdoor health initiatives.
Tom also served on the Executive Committee of Australian Children’s Health Defence, contributing to national advocacy and community awareness initiatives.
As a Board Member of Future Solutions Foundation, Tom brings invaluable expertise in community engagement, resilience, and environmental health awareness, supporting the Foundation’s mission to assist individuals and families affected by medical negligence.

Kara Thomas, Board Member
Kara Thomas is a Registered Nurse with postgraduate qualifications in perioperative nursing and a Master’s in Community and International Development. With almost two decades of clinical experience, she has held leadership roles in tertiary operating theatres and has developed a strong reputation for patient advocacy, evidence-based practice, and health policy research.
Kara has contributed to national discussions on healthcare policy, professional regulation, informed consent, and medical ethics through research, published articles, and submissions to government. She currently serves as Secretary of the Australian Medical Professionals’ Society (AMPS), where she advocates for professional integrity, scientific discourse, transparency, and policies that place patient wellbeing at the centre of healthcare.
As a Board Member of the Future Solutions Foundation, Kara brings valuable expertise in clinical governance, patient advocacy, healthcare policy, and ethical leadership. Her commitment to accountability, informed decision-making, and compassionate care supports the Foundation’s mission to assist individuals and families affected by medical negligence while promoting meaningful improvements to Australia’s healthcare system.
